Benefits of Dance Summer Class for Your Teen

It's time to start thinking about summer camp for your teenager, and without a doubt you want one that will appeal to you and your child. Dance provides a format both fun and educational with long-lasting benefits. Here are three great reasons to choose a local dance summer camp.

Build Lasting Friendships

Summer camp is always a great time to make new friends, and dance is no exception. In fact, the teamwork involved in dance performances can strengthen those budding bonds of friendship. Whether your teen has a lot of friends already, or you've just moved and they need a new social network, the friends gained from dance camp are great to have.

Learn the Value of Responsibility

A dance summer camp teaches valuable lessons about responsibility and being prepared. There's the practice necessary for putting on a show, the gear needed at each class and performance, and the personal responsibility to do one's best.

Perform Better in School

Studies have shown that children and teens who attend dance classes perform better in school. This is likely due to the structure, planning and responsibility instilled during these classes. Students of dance also learn a sense of personal responsibility that's very useful in the classroom.

5 Tips to Giving Your Child the Best Dance Party

A dance party is a fun alternative to the standard birthday party format. It's easy to put together, and gives the kids a workout. Here are five simple tips to get your dance party started.

1. Let Other Parents Know in Advance

This ensures that no one sends their child in restrictive clothing. When you're informing the parents, that's also a good time to find out if their child has a favorite song or genre.

2. Get Your Child Involved

It's their birthday, why not let them help pick out a set list for the party? You can use the information from the other parents to try and pick songs which appeal to as many kids as possible.

3. Pick a Theme

This is helpful if you or your child are having trouble putting together enough music for an entire party. It's easy to start with an idea like "Disney Princesses" or "Fast Dance Songs," and add to it based on that.

4. Choose Age-Appropriate Music

When your child helps pick the songs, it's easier to avoid accidentally including something "baby-ish." Look over their list before the party to avoid anything too mature.

5. Find a good venue

If you're worried your home is too small for a dance party, that's not a problem. Look for studios willing to host dance parties.

That should get you off to a great start planning your child's dance party. Click here to find out more about dance birthday parties in Apex.
