How to Find the Right Jazz Clothes for Your Child

When your children participate in sports or music lessons, you make sure they have the right equipment to be successful. You may not realize that dance apparel can be as important to performing steps and routines as a pair of cleats may be for playing soccer. Here are some tips to help you when choosing jazz wear for your young dancer.

What Matters Most

Dancers leap and turn and perform all sorts of movements with their bodies, and they need clothes that allow them to move freely. Jazz clothes should be close fitting but not restrictive.  Leotards, booty shorts, crop tops and jazz pants would all be good options, whereas loose or baggy clothing could limit flexibility.

Toe Tapping Style

Dance footwear is not uniform. Jazz shoes are quite different from ballet or pointe shoes. They are available in split or solid soles and are usually either black or nude.  Some may have a small heel and elastic instead of laces. Jazz sneakers are also an option, but no matter which shoe you choose, make sure they fit well and comfortably.

When in Doubt

Each dance school has its own preference for how children should dress for jazz class. You may want to ask your child’s school before purchasing attire that may not work for class. If you want more information about appropriate clothing for jazz dance classes in Cary, please visit this website.
